Consumers and businesses face more postal strikes as Royal Mail postal workers continue their industrial action against Royal Mail. A number of strikes are planned for the week beginning on August 17 and running until the following Monday August 24. The strikes will be spread across the country affecting different areas throughout the week.
On Monday August 17, the following areas will be affected as a result of the industrial action by Royal Mail postal workers: Coventry, Leamington, London Airport Mail unit, London Mount Pleasant, Nottingham East and Stoke-on-Trent. Around 2,800 staff will take part in the strike action on Monday alone. Around 2,000 of these striking workers will come from the deliveries, collection and sorting unit at London Mount Pleasant.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) that represents the postal workers has launched a series of strikes across the country for the past two months. The CWU and the Royal Mail management are embroiled in a bitter dispute with both the parties accusing the other of being guilty.
The postal union accuse Royal Mail of breaking an earlier promises over jobs, pay and terms, however, Royal Mail accuse the union of the same and for blocking modernisation of the Royal Mail.
The CWU is set to carry out a national strike ballot in September.
The ongoing tussle between the union and Royal Mail has given has been a blessing in disguise for courier companies. However, businesses that rely on Royal Mail were left frustrated by the series of strikes that has lead to delays in post deliveries and collections.
