Senior Met officer lodges racism claim
Britain's most senior Asian police officer has filed for racial discrimination against the Metropolitan Police, the BBC said on Friday.
Legal representatives for Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur formally submitted his employment tribunal claim, believed to be for 1.2 million pounds, it added.
The Met's third most senior officer claims he was discriminated against on grounds of race, religion and age, BBC radio said.
An increasingly bitter race row has raged during the past few months, pitting Ghaffur against Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair.
Ghaffur, the officer in charge of security for the London 2012 Olympics, alleges he has been humiliated and undermined by the Metropolitan Police, media reports said in June.
Blair said at the time he hoped the issue would be resolved satisfactorily.
Nobody from the Employment Tribunal was available for comment on Friday.
The Met said it was unaware of any papers having been lodged, and had no comment to make at this stage.
