John Lewis weekly sales up
John Lewis said on Friday that weekly sales at its stores increased 5.9 per cent in the week to 12 July, compared with the same time last year. The company said it was in the second week of its clearance sale.
Sales of fashion items were up 13.9 per cent, electricals and home technology goods up 3.8 per cent and homewares up 0.1 per cent.
The company said that total sales at its Waitrose supermarkets also increased 1.2 per cent in the week, taking total weekly sales at the group up by 3.2 per cent.
Compared with two years ago sales at John Lewis department stores were up 13.3 per cent.
In the 24 weeks to 12 July sales at John Lewis stores were up 0.8 per cent compared with the previous year.
In a statement the company said, "A super result for the second week of clearance ... and very strong double-digit growth over the two years as well."
