FTSE finishes up on Friday

The FTSE 100 share index rose on Friday, recovering 1.7 per cent of its value. By the end of the day the index was up 90.1 points to 5,376.4.
Banks made gains with Barclays up 9.7 per cent, HSBC rising 3.7 per cent and Royal Bank of Scotland up nearly 10 per cent.
Miners however fell with BHP Billiton down 1.7 per cent, Rio Tinto falling 1.3 per cent and Xstrata down 0.8 per cent.
Pharmaceuticals were up with AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and Shire up 1.3 to 2.5 per cent.
Housebuilders also saw their share values rise with Barratt Developments up 20 per cent, Persimmon up 15.2 per cent and Taylor Wimpey up eight per cent.
Among the fallers of the day were Tesco who fell 3.3 per cent and Reckitt Benckiser down 2.7 per cent.
