FTSE rises Thursday morning

The FTSE 100 share index rose early on Thursday morning. By 9:28 the index had risen 1.5 per cent by 79.4 points to 5,230.
Bank shares recovered some of their value with Barclays, HBOS, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, Royal Bank of Scotland and Standard Chartered up 1.3 to 5.8 per cent.
Oil firms also rose with BG Group up 2.1 per cent, BP rising 1.2 per cent and Royal Dutch Shell up 0.6 per cent. Cairn Energy however fell 2.4 per cent.
Miners also did well with Anglo American, BHP Billiton, Lonmin and Vedanta Resources rising 0.3 to two per cent.
Pharmaceuticals however fell with AstraZeneca down 2.3 per cent, GlaxoSmithKline dropping 0.5 per cent and Shire down 2.8 per cent.
Cable & Wireless saw its shares rise three per cent.
