The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released figures on Wednesday showing that the UK's goods trade deficit was reduced slightly in May.

The ONS said that the goods trade gap went down from £7.527 billion in April to £7.494 billion in May. From non EU countries the gap fell from £4.027 billion to £4.143 billion.

The ONS said that many firms needed to import their raw materials and said that the trend of the trade gap was flat.
