FTSE nearly at 5,500 Wednesday morning

The FTSE 100 share index rose early on Wednesday morning. By 9:20 am the index was up one per cent by 55.3 points to 5,495.8.
Banks made some early gains with Barclays, HBOS, HSBC, Lloyds TSB and Royal Bank of Scotland up one to 5.12 per cent.
Oil firms were also up with BG Group, BP, Cairn Energy, Royal Dutch Shell and Tullow oil rising 0.5 to three per cent.
Housebuilders saw their shares recover some value after recent falls with Barratt Developments up 7.7 per cent and Redrow rising over 14 per cent.
The London Stock Exchange also saw shares rise more than seven per cent after announcing an eight per cent rise in revenue in the three months to the end of June.
