FTSE rises on Friday

The FTSE 100 share index rose on Friday. By the end of the day the index was up 0.2 per cent by 11.7 points to 5,529.9.
Banks made losses with Barclays down 1.9 per cent, Bradford & Bingley down twenty per cent and HSBC down 1.2 per cent.
Commodities made gains with oil firms BG Group up 4.2 per cent, Cairn Energy rising 3.9 per cent and Tullow Oil rising 5.3 per cent.
Miners also rose with BHP Billiton, Eurasian Natural Resources, Kazakhmys and Lonmin up 4.1 to 3.5 per cent.
Retailers were down with J Sainsbury down 2.1 per cent, Tesco falling 1.3 per cent and Wm Morrison down 2.3 per cent.
Pharmaceutical companies also fell with AstraZeneca down 2.4 per cent and Reckitt Benckiser falling 2.7 per cent.
