FTSE up on Thursday as commodities rise

The FTSE 100 share index edged up on Thursday by 35.8 points to 6,251.8 (up 0.6 per cent).
Banks performed poorly with Alliance & Leicester, Barclays, HBOS, Lloyds TSB and Royal Bank of Scotland down 0.4-2.0 per cent.
Commodities however performed well with oil stocks BP, Cairn Energy, Royal Dutch Shell and Tullow Oil rising 0.2-4.3 per cent.
Miners also saw their share values rise significantly with Antofagasta, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto up 2.1-2.6 per cent.
Other winners of the day included Cadbury, up 3.9 per cent, BT, up 5.4 per cent and brewer SABMiller, rising 3.9 per cent.
Thursday's fallers included ITV, who fell 1.6 per cent and Thomas Cook, who dropped 5.1 per cent.
