Travis Perkins makes good progress despite slowdown
Building merchant, Travis Perkins said on Tuesday that its business had made good progress in the first four months of 2008, despite the economic slowdown. The group said that its total turnover at the end of April was up 6.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2007.
The company's merchanting division saw turnover rise 8.2 per cent and like for like turnover per day was up 3.0 per cent. In the same period the groups' specialist merchanting business saw total turnover increase 10.9 per cent and like for like turnover per trading day up 3.1 per cent.
Travis Perkins said that it had also made gains in market share in the first four months of 2008.
Tim Stevenson, chairman of the group, said, "Our business has made good progress in the first four months of 2008 in markets that have, as anticipated, continued the slowdown which started in the last quarter of 2007."
