FTSE rises early on Tuesday

The FTSE 100 share index rose early on Tuesday. By 8:56am the index was up 18.9 points to 6,239.5 (up 0.3 per cent).
Banks got off to a tricky start with Alliance & Leicester down 5.2 per cent, and both Barclays and Lloyds TSB falling 0.9 per cent.
Travel company TUI Travel saw its share values rise 4.1 per cent and Imperial Tobacco was up 1.8 per cent.
Oil firms also performed well thanks to soaring oil prices of around $124 per barrel.
ITV failed to join in with the gainers and was down 2.4 per cent.
