French police reportedly arrest two in airport probe
French police arrested two men on Friday suspected of involvement in an attack by Basque separatist group ETA on Madrid airport in December 2006, a source close to the investigation said.
The two were seized by an elite police team and anti-terrorist specialists at around 8:50 p.m. (7:50 p.m. British time) in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, in the far southwest of France.
The source said police believe the two might be Joseba Iturbide and Mikel San Sebastian. One of the pair is suspected of direct involvement in the airport attack, which killed two people, and the other of indirect involvement.
"Investigators are trying to check their identities," the source said.
The two men were not armed at the time of their arrest and are being held in custody in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
