Consumer products company Unilever said on Monday it will acquire leading Russian ice cream company Inmarko for an undisclosed amount.
The deal will strengthen Unilever's position as the world's No. 1 ice cream company, as well as its competitive position in Russia, the firm said in a statement.
It said Inmarko, established in 1991, is the leading ice cream company in Russia, with a turnover of about 115 million euros (87 million pounds) in 2007.
It has an extensive supply chain network including three factories in Novosibirsk, Omsk and Tula, and currently employs more than 4,500 people. The deal is expected to be completed in the first half of 2008 after getting regulatory approvals.
