Other boiler tube components were inspected also to provide some baseline data for the boiler safety case, boiler management strategy and life extension decisions. A number of small defects requiring repair were found by inspections.

Repairs of the defects were completed at Hinkley Point B R$, but have not been finished at Hunterston B R4. The company announced it would be inspecting both of its R3 units as well as a safety precaution and so return all four units to service, if only at 70% capacity.

The company is aiming to have all four units operational by the end of March 2007, subject to approval of the associated safety cases.

The effect on the financial year 2006/07 was announced on 17th November 2006. Along with the inspections the company is planning to advance work intended at both units at Hunterston B in May 2007, which will positively affect results in the financial year of 2007/08.

British Energy also announced on 16th October that Hartlepool power station was shut in order to repair the caste iron pipe work related to the cooling water system. The repairs are finished and units at Hartlepool are being returned to service. One unit returned to service on 18th December 2006, whilst the other is expected to be back in business over the next week.
