National Express says trading ahead of expectations
Bus and train operator National Express Group Plc said trading for the year had been ahead of its expectations, driven by a strong performance from its bus and coach divisions.
"The group is ending 2006 strongly and we are excited by the number of new opportunities that present themselves next year. Consequently, we remain confident about the group's future growth prospects," the company said in a statement on Monday.
The company highlighted its Spanish bus division, Alsa, as a potential area of growth after seeing improvements in long distance and urban passenger numbers helped by Internet sales and fare deals.
It added that its UK bus division had performed in line with expectations despite significant increases in fuel costs over the year.
